Visit - Physiotherapy Assessment with IMS/Dry Needling
**If this is related to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), ICBC, or WorkSafeBC, we are unable to accept patients for injuries or conditions associated with these claims**
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) or Dry Needling is a highly effective technique used to treat chronic muscle pain caused by shortened, tightened muscles. It involves inserting fine needles into trigger points to release muscle shortening, reduce pain, and restore function.
What We Are Targeting
- Chronic Pain: Persistent muscle tension, localized knots (trigger points), headaches, or radiating pain where traditional stretching/massage hasn't helped.
- Muscle Shortening: Muscles that are tight and inhibited, often causing referred pain elsewhere (e.g., a tight hip muscle causing knee pain).
How to Prepare
1. Be Hydrated: Please ensure you are well-hydrated before your appointment. Hydration supports muscle health and can help your body respond better to the treatment.
2. Eat Something: Do not come to your appointment on an empty stomach. A small meal or snack beforehand helps stabilize blood sugar.
3. Wear Loose Clothing: Wear clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated (e.g., shorts for hip/leg issues, a tank top for shoulder/neck issues).
4. Expect the "Ache": During the insertion, if the needle hits a shortened muscle, you will typically feel a characteristic cramping, twitch, or deep ache. This is a normal, brief, and important sign that the trigger point has been successfully engaged.
You will undergo a thorough assessment including treatment planning. This may include IMS/Dry Needling, a gait assessment, functional movement assessment, strength or range of motion testing and goal setting. Pick this appointment if you are coming to our clinic for the first time or if you have a new area of injury or if you are wanting IMS/Dry needling treatment.. We take many insurance plans, including DND/DVA.

En quoi ça consiste
Most of this first physiotherapy visit is spent figuring out what’s driving the problem — history, movement, strength and hands-on testing — then some treatment if there’s time, and you leave with a clearer picture and a plan for what comes next.
