The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is a complex hinge that connects the jaw to the skull, allowing for movements required for chewing, talking, and other essential functions. Dysfunction in this joint can lead to a variety of symptoms, including pain, clicking, popping sounds, limited jaw movement, and headaches. TMJ disorders (TMD) can arise from a range of causes such as trauma, poor posture, grinding or clenching teeth, stress, or malocclusions (misaligned teeth).
A TMJ Physiotherapy Initial Assessment involves a thorough evaluation of the patient's symptoms, functional limitations, and physical findings to develop a personalized treatment plan aimed at reducing pain, restoring function, and preventing further damage to the joint.
