The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that form a sling to support the pelvic organs: bladder, rectum, uterus (women), prostate (men). Dysfunction in these muscles may occur as a result of pregnancy, child birth (vaginal or caesarean), menopause, pelvic/abdominal surgeries, chronic infections, gastrointestinal problems, cancer treatments, prostrate changes. The dysfunction can lead to conditions like incontinence, constipation, urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, pain with intercourse/penetration, low back/groin/hip pain. Pelvic floor physiotherapy involves an external and internal assessment of these muscles to evaluate their strength, tone, coordination and endurance. An internal pelvic exam can take place vaginally or rectally. While an internal exam can offer a great deal of information regarding your condition, not everyone is appropriate for an internal exam. Even without an internal exam, there are a variety of physiotherapy treatment options available for pelvic floor conditions. Once the assessment is complete the physiotherapist will work with you to establish a plan of care and help you reach your goals.

We offer orthotic assessments with both a chiropractor and a physiotherapist. Using Footmaxx technology and a review of your footwear, they’ll take a close look at your gait, pronation or supination, and center of pressure to make sure you get the right support. If you don’t have private health insurance, you can book an appointment directly with the practitioner you prefer. If you do have private health insurance, here are three quick things to check before booking your assessment: 1. Does your plan cover custom-made orthotics? 2. Do you need a doctor’s referral for coverage? 3. Does your plan allow a chiropractor, a physiotherapist, or both to "dispense" your orthotics?
