TMJ massage is a treatment that helps to alleviate tension and pain resulting from TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction). This treatment addresses the muscles acting directly upon the TMJ joint as well as the muscles of the neck which can aggravate this pathology. In conjunction with other modalities, such as dental appliances and physiotherapy, massage can help to improve mandibular range of motion as well as reduce clicking in the TMJ. This treatment can be performed inter-orally with non-latex gloves, or external depending on patient comfort level.
